Nicola. Serigraph Print. Gold Ink on Black
Probably one of my favorites from the collection. Winged Victory, Nike was my inspiration for this one hence the ornamental wings and the lady subject. Thank you to my classmate, Minhee for posing for me on this one :)
(Clockwise) Orbis, Ignis, Aqua, Ventus. Serigraph print. Gold Acrylic on Black.
This is a series of portraits as a nod to Alfonse Mucha. Being so, I worked on a theme that came in a set of four! I was also very luck to have such beautiful girls to muse the four elements for me. Tricia for earth (or mineral), Tracy for fire (she also took the pictures!), Kim for air and Teptep for water.
I played around with different styles of embellishments, though, where as Mucha works with a more unified motif.
I really enjoyed producing this series and I plan to work on more portraits like these when I get a little time off from school!
Draconem. Serigraph print. Gold Acrylic on Black.
I have to admit, I was surprise how much attention this piece got. As much as it was an exploration of transferring ornament to subject, It’s really just one of those ”I’ll just make it because I want to” kind of art works.
Mutatio. Serigraph print. Silver Acrylic on Black.
Another one of the pieces from Impression/Reflection. This is one of the first pieces where I started experimenting with photography and incorporating it into the serigraph process. As you can see at this point, I still haven’t gotten the hang of adjusting its contrast enough to properly let the paint penetrate through the screen.
This piece was an attempt to illustrate a contrast between modernity and tradition. Having a very classic Filipiniana inspired design encapsulate an image that reveals very modern-day ideas, having photography mesh into ornament, it was a challenge of fitting in elements that often contradict meld into a cohesive piece.
Defining the Infinite. Serigraph print. silver acrylic on black.
The headlining piece for Impression/Reflection, my first solo exhibition that happened last August 9 at Terrace 45. Everything was sold out and the event was a complete success!
Thank you to everyone who came and showed their support! Much love to you guys! :D
Will be having my first solo exhibition this Saturday! See you guys there! :D
Late Batman day post! Here’s an info-graphic I did for a paper I wrote last semester: How audience, society and cultural context has influenced the design evolution of an iconic, fictional character. Batmaning at a graduate level :))
experimenting with different illustration techniques
Spent an hour consulting Martin Venesky in his office today. The man and his space is inspiring!
